The place to be this summer !!!
La Cala de Mijas is just 30 minutes away from Malaga and 15 from Marbella on the Costa del sol.
It is a resort with a difference as the original fishing village has remained almost intact. Visitors are delighted to see the fisherman in the early morning down on the beach and the locals at the market shopping for fresh produce. The village has kept its traditional beach “chiringuitos ” where fresh fish is cooked on a spit on charcoal boat by a local veteran. The younger generation have mainly been trained at the local catering school and have opened trendy tapas bars and restaurants. The Spanish new wave of amazing cuisine can be sampled at incredible prices.
A typical 3 course menu of the day with a glass of wine can be enjoyed for €10 and a glass of wine is around €2.
There is also an international offering Chinese, Indian, Thai and Italian are available and there are lots of traditional English/Irish pubs for a refreshing pint in familiar surroundings.
The beach stretches for several km and you can enjoy a day on the beach without the normal crowds. The lack of high rise hotels means there are fewer tourists and the beach is very chilled. There are bars with sunbeds and waiter service and you can also enjoy water sports and fishing.
The “boardwalk” is a new innovation and you can enjoy a stroll beachside from the end of La Cala beach into neighbouring Marbella if like to exercise. For those who prefer a stroll at a leisurely pace you can stop and enjoy a drink along the way at the bars and restaurants dotted along the way.
La Cala de Mijas became a tourist hotspot thanks to its golf resorts. There are 6 golf courses within 5 km of the village and great sport facilities. As the golf courses were developed they also built villas and apartment resorts to provide luxury accommodation for the golfers. The surrounding resorts of Miraflores, Torrenueva and El Faro provide quality accommodation close to all the amenities and family friendly
